“Responding to the ecological crisis is an urgency that calls on every Church in Asia”. This is written in the pastoral letter of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) about care for Creation, published today to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Laudato si’. In their letter, the Bishops call to an “ecological conversion”, by urging to actively participate in the forthcoming COP 30 in Belem and to celebrate the Time of Creation as a “time of spiritual and ecological renewal”. “Our common home suffers from indifference and abuse”, the prelates write, mentioning deforestation, rising seas, pollution and the agricultural crisis in Asia. But they also mention “signs of hope” such as communal initiatives, young people’s commitment, interreligious cooperation. In particular, the Bishops recall the need for “mitigation measures”, “solidarity with the more vulnerable ones” and “a reform of global finance”. Their appeal ends with a call to “walk the Pilgrimage of Hope together”, trusting that “Christ renews the face of the earth through our collective efforts”.
