Three days of events, starting today and ending on Sunday, 5 April, are marking the opening of the year in which the Ukrainian city of Lviv will be European Youth Capital 2025. A performance-show at the Opera Theatre today, a video-ceremony broadcast to honour the memory of young Ukrainians who died due to the Russian aggression tomorrow, and an “inspiring event” on Saturday at the !FESTrepublic space where about 1,000 participants, mostly young people, are expected to come, and where the programme and priorities for the year ahead will be presented – these are the highlights of the opening ceremony that will showcase the city as “a city of opportunities”, as reported on the dedicated website. “Here you can study, build a career, rest, and be successful in the worlds of business, culture, science and sport”. “Movement” is the key word for this year, because “Lviv has come a long way to obtain the title of European Youth Capital”. The motto “it’s easy to move”, in the most difficult moments “has turned into ‘Not easy, but move!’. Because even when it wasn’t easy, we kept moving forward and doing what would be useful and meaningful. And here we are!”. Lviv is the first Ukrainian city to hold this title. Commissioner for Youth Glenn Micallef will also be present in the Ukrainian city. He said he was “honoured to witness the start of the 2025 title year in Lviv and see first-hand the results of the efforts, dedication, and resilience of its citizens, including many young people”.
