The autumn meeting of the general assembly of the German Bishops’ Conference (DBK) will take place in Fulda from 23rd to 26th September. It will be attended by 61 members of the German Bishops’ Conference, led by their President, mgr. Georg Bätzing, Bishop of Limburg. The venue of the conference will be the Maritim Hotel am Schlossgarten Fulda. The resolutions will focus on the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome, which will be held in October, and its preparatory text (Instrumentum laboris). The situation of the Church in the Middle East in the midst of the conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas will be discussed. In addition, the General Assembly will deal with the Holy Year 2025 and the future of Catholic theology in Germany. Other items on the agenda include the development of German-Polish relations in the commemorative year 2025, the eightieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and a review of the 13th international pilgrimage of altar servers to Rome. The opening session of the General Assembly on Monday 23rd September will be attended by the apostolic nuncio to Germany, Archbishop Nikola Eterović. Guests from other Bishops’ Conferences, Father Jarosław Mrówczyński (Deputy Secretary General of the Bishops’ Conference of Poland), and mgr. Jean-Pierre Batut, Auxiliary Bishop of Toulouse, France, will be there too. At the end of the meeting, on Thursday 26th September, the records of the assembly will be issued at the traditional press conference, chaired by mgr. Bätzing.
